Tehran: A passenger plane carrying 60 passengers crashed in a mountainous area of Iran on Sunday, authorities said.
The plane came down in the Zagros mountains near the city of Semirom in Isfahan province while flying between Tehran and the south-western city of Yasuj, reports the BBC.
“All emergency forces are on alert,” an emergency services spokesman said.
However, there was no official confirmation on the number of casualties.
The plane, believed to be an ATR 72-500, was operated by Aseman Airlines.
According to local media reports, the people on board were 60 passengers, two security guards, two flight attendants, the pilot and co-pilot.

Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: Aspirants, Do Not Miss this opportunity. In a major announcement, the Indian Railways has set a target of training 30,000 apprentices at its 16 zonal and seven production units in 2018-19, as part of the government’s Skill India initiative, the national transporter said.
These apprentices would be trained in various categories like fitter, turner, machinist, welder, painter, carpenter, electrician, refrigerator and AC mechanic, mechanic (motor vehicle/diesel) and others.
For the financial year 2017-18, about 26,000 training slots for apprenticeship have been notified in addition to over 4,000 people already undergoing training at various railway facilities.
“The Railway recognises that skill development of the labour force is an important component of development of human resources. It is crucial for the industrial development of the country.
“Skill training imparted through formal institutions alone is not sufficient to make the labour force fully skilled. This needs to be supplemented by training in the actual work place”, the statement said.
It said an employment notification was issued earlier this week for recruitment of 62,907 staff in Level 1 pay scale.
Apprentice training comprises basic and on-the-job training/practical training. Basic training is an essential component of apprenticeship for those who have not undergone any institutional training before taking up on-the-job and practical training.

Gaza City, Palestinian Territories: Two Palestinians were killed by Israeli army fire in Gazain a flare-up after soldiers were wounded by an explosive device along the Palestinian enclave’s border, Gaza medical sources said Sunday.
The fatalities were identified by the Gaza health ministry as Salam Sabah and Abdullah Abu Sheikha, both 17, who were killed during a strike east of Rafah in southern Gaza.
According to Palestinian eye witnesses, the two were killed by shots near the border.
The Israeli army said that its forces had fired “warning shots”at a number of Palestinians approaching the border fence”in a suspicious manner”.
Their death comes after Israel launched a series of air strikes targeting 18 “terror targets belonging to Hamas”in Gaza,after the explosive device wounded soldier sand a projectile from Gaza hit in an Israeli border town.

The Assam Rifles have defused landmines allegedly planted by Arakan militants in Mizoram-Mynarmar border, an official said on Thursday. Personnel of the specialised explosive detection unit and the bomb disposal squad of the force defused the landmines in Lawngtlai district of Mizoram, Deputy Commissioner Arun T told PTI over phone. Assam Rifles personnel were conducting patrol along the border, the deputy commissioner said. One woman was killed by a concealed landmine and a man was maimed by another landmine blast in mid-January near the border with Myanmar, following which the Assam Rifles started searching for landmines in the area. The force on January 23 also issued an advisory asking the local people not to venture in the border areas as there was strong possibility of the presence of more hidden landmines. The Myanmar Army launched a massive operation to flush out the Arakan insurgents hiding in Chin state from November and the militants allegedly planted the landmines. -PTI

Minister T R Zeliang on Wednesday exuded confidence that the NPF will return to power and said the party has not shut doors to the BJP to return into the partnership after February 27 elections. He, however, ruled out any possibility of alliance with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) even in the case of a hung Assembly. Interacting with reporters after launching campaign for the Naga People's Front (NPF) Kohima division, Zeliang said his party NPF and the National People's Party (NPP) entered into an alliance agreement on Monday while things are also being worked out with the JD(U) to form the next government together. The BJP has tied up with the newly-formed Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) led by former chief minister Neiphiu Rio. The BJP has fielded candidates in 20 seats while the NDPP candidates are fighting on the rest of the 40 seats. Rio had left the NPF to form the NDPP last year. "There will not be a hung Assembly, and even if it happens there is no possibility of the newly-floated Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party coming together with the NPF," Zeliang said. Over the BJP, Zeliang said, "We have not closed the doors because our partnership still continues as presently also there are two ministers and one adviser to the chief minister of the BJP in the NPF-led DAN government". "It is on their (BJP) request that we revoked the decision of severing ties, so our alliance continues and it is up to them to decide," he said. "The door is open and unless they walk away from us, we will continue to have alliance," Zeliang said. Over Rio forming the NDPP, he said, "I am happy that he has gone away from us, because if we remain together we will always fight but now he is in a different camp." NPF President Shurhozelie Liezietsu, who also addressed the gathering, said, Since creation of the state of Nagaland in 1963 and the inception of regional party in 1964, solution to the Naga political problem has been the top-most priority of the Naga Peoples Front and it has remained unchanged for it. The NPF has taken several initiatives to facilitate the peaceful resolution of the Naga political issue and shall continue to do so till we achieve its goal, he said. Liezietsu said it will not be difficult for the Nagas to differentiate and choose between the Cock and the saffron party for their future. Now Naga people have to understand which party will be right for the state, he said. The NPF president also lambasted the NDPP, saying that its intention for sharing seats with the BJP is nothing but just to get into power at the cost of the Naga people. -PTI

Even after 54 years of statehood and 12 assembly elections, Nagaland is yet to see any woman representative in the Assembly. The state is set to go to polls on February 27 and the results will be announced on March 3. Of the 195 candidates vying for a seat in the 60-member Assembly this time, five are women. While Wedie-u Kronu and Mangyangpula are contesting the polls on National People's Party (NPP) tickets from Dimapur-III and Noksen Assembly constituencies, Rakhila is a BJP nominee from Tuensang Sadar-II seat. Awan Konyak of the newly-formed Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) is fighting the election from Aboi seat and Rekha Rose Dukru is an Independent candidate from Chizami constituency. The ruling Naga People's Front (NPF), however, has not fielded any women candidate this time. NPF president Shurhozelie Liezietsu, during a recent media interaction, said: "No woman in the party has shown interest in contesting the polls." Barring Rakhila, the four other women candidates are first timers. The BJP nominee is wife of former minister and four-time legislator Lakiumong, who died in 2006 after a prolonged illness. Rakhila lost the last election from the same Tuensang Sadar-II seat by around 800 votes. "Men in power do not perform. I will do what they haven't done so far," said Rakhila. NDPP candidate Awan Konyak is daughter of four-time former MLA Nyeiwang Konyak, who passed away earlier this month. "Women make significant contributions to the society every day. Their problems, however, are often ignored. I want to focus on gender equality and women empowerment," she said. Mangyangpula, an alternative medicine practitioner, said Noksen is 100 per cent ready for a woman leader. "The ground reality in this constituency is horrible even after 50 years of the states formation," she said. Men and women together in the 60-member House will make a lot of difference, Rekha Rose Dukru, an entrepreneur-turned-politician, opined. Wedie-U Kronu, a social worker, feels women can bring positive changes in the society. "It is difficult to clean the system of corruption. I entered politics to bring about a change in the system," she said. All five of them have been campaigning on social media for a few weeks. Welcoming the women candidates, Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer, Abhijit Sinha, said the number has increased from two in last elections to five this time. The adviser of Naga Mothers Association (NMA), an apex women's body in the state, Rosemary Dzuvichu, said, "We are happy to see these women step into the fray. All women voters in these constituencies must support and vote for them." Women participation is equally important as that of men, said social activist and entrepreneur Elu Ndang. "We should encourage Naga women to participate in the decision-making bodies," she said. Rano Shaiza, a member of United Democratic Party, was the first and only woman in this state who was elected to Lok Sabha in 1977. She died of age-related ailments in 2015. -PTI

Veteran Congress leader Harish Rawat on Thursday appealed to the people of Tripura to vote for his party to "save democracy". "Both the CPI(M ) and the BJP are parties that do not believe in constitutional democracy. The Congress is the only political party that upholds democratic values," Rawat said at a press meet at Congress Bhavan in Agartala. People are fed up with misrule and unemployment in the state under the Left Front rule, the former Uttarakhand chief minister said, adding that the Congress will usher in development in Tripura if voted to power. "I appeal to the people of the state to to choose Congress over the BJP and the Left to save the democracy," he said. Tripura is set to go to polls on February 18 and the results will be announced on March 3. In a scathing attack on the BJP, Rawat said the saffron party is out to "purchase voters with money". "The BJP has brought to Tripura a lot of outsiders with moneybags from different states of the country. They had done the same in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and elsewhere," he alleged. Earlier, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and CPI(M) State Secretary Bijan Dhar had also alleged that "outsiders" from Assam, Uttar Pradesh and other states have entered the poll-bound state in large numbers. Last week, the ruling party lodged a complaint with the Election Commission seeking their ouster. Refuting the BJP's allegations that the Congress may have entered into a "clandestine pact" with the CPI(M), Rawat said it is the saffron party that is working "against the interests of the state". "The BJP has entered into a poll alliance with the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT), a tribal party that demanded a separate state, 'Twipraland'. The central government has also reduced funds for Border Area Development Programme (BADP)," he added. -PTI

Two achievers from Northeast India, Shiroi Lily Shaiza and Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem have earned ‘Special Mention’ in this year’s Forbes India ’30 Under 30’ list. Shiroi Lily Shaiza from Nagaland, got the mention for her impactful work in “NGO & Social Entrepreneurship.” Shaiza is the Managing Director Aspora Nagaland and Advisor at Entrepreneurs Associates (Corporate Manager). She was featured in the list which Forbes India described as “achievers who narrowly missed out making it to the final 30 in our Class of 2018. Shaiza, is an alumnus of Symbiosis International, Pune. On its Facebook page, Aspora Nagaland Ltd described itself as a social enterprise initiated by the EA, an organization which is committed to developing entrepreneurship, financial accessibility and innovative livelihoods in Nagaland and Manipur since its inception in 2000. It said that it is a registered entity under Ministry of Corporate Affairs and located in Nagaland, ASPORA is empowering local communities through livestock farming and making Nagaland a meat surplus producing state. Born in Manipur, Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem is an Indian professional footballer who is currently a free agent and giving trails in different European clubs starting with Motherwell. ```Imphal, Feb 13: Nine vehicles including three single barrel gun whose license were expire has been picked up during a search operation conducted as a security measures taken up by Imphal East District Police and teams comprising of commando, women police and Porompat Police Station today at Awaching, Khetri Bangoon Mamang Ching Khunou area from 3:30 am to 6:30 am.
Altogether 203 persons including 101 female were verified where 21 persons with 10 female who were unable to provide proper documents and identification proof where pick up.
Meanwhile, nine vehicles including one Alto car, six bikes, one Honda Active and one Yamaha Dio that doesn’t have proper documents and three single barrel guns whose license were already expire were pick up during the search operation conducted today.
Mention may be that the cordon and search operation was conducted under the command of M Kumarjit Singh, Additional SP/OPS; Robinsun Khamnam, DSP-CDO and Inspector B Lunthang Vaiphei, OC-CDO of Imphal East District.
Persons pick up verification and seize vehicles and guns have been handed over to Porompat Police Station for further verification.```
